Certificate of the asylum seeker’s right to work will be subject to a charge

The Finnish Immigration Service has not charged any processing fee until now when issuing to an asylum seeker a certificate for the right to work in Finland. This practice will change on 3 May 2010. Beginning of 3 May there will be a processing fee of 20 euros for this certificate and this applies also to all other certificates issued by the Finnish Immigration Service.

An asylum seeker has the right to work in Finland without a residence permit three months after submitting an asylum application. This right to work is granted to asylum seekers by law, and it is not subject to separate application.

If an asylum seeker wishes, he or she may request a certificate for the right to work from the Finnish Immigration Service by means of the form “Request for a certificate” which will be found on our website under Refugees > Right to work on 3 May. Requests will be accepted only on this form, free-form letters or own forms will not be processed.
