Frequently asked questions: returnees
I am about to apply for an extended permit on the basis of returnee
status. How and when can I take the language test arranged in Finland by the
Finnish Immigration Service?
If, after moving to Finland, you submit an application for an extended permit
to the police on the basis of returnee status and your first residence permit
has been granted on some other basis, you may take a language test arranged by
the Immigration Service in Finland in order to fulfil the conditions for
granting a permit in this respect. Persons who have not yet been granted a first
residence permit cannot take part in a language test arranged in Finland.
You may not take the language test arranged by the Finnish Immigration
Service until you have submitted your residence permit application. The Finnish
Immigration Service will invite all applicants of Finnish birth (section 48 of the Aliens Act) to the language test. The
Immigration Service will arrange language tests at its premises as necessary, at
approximately two-month intervals, depending on the number of applicants.
Further information about the language test can be obtained from the Finnish
Immigration Service’s Customer Service, tel. +358 (0) 71 873 3400 (Mon-Fri
9-15), or Immigration Unit during its telephone service hours (Tues, Wed and Thu
10-11), tel. +358 (0) 71 873 3740.
